Just 2 hours and 3 minutes into 2023, Benton County’s first baby was born at Good Samaritan Regional Medical Center.

Finchley Ceperich was born at 2:03 a.m. Jan. 1 to Russ and Angel Ceperich, of Alsea. The baby boy measured 17-3/4 inches in length and weighed 7 pounds, 6 ounces at birth.

Said Angel about her son being the first 2023 baby, “It’s pretty exciting.”

Russ works in the medical device sales field while Angel is a stay-at-home mother on the family’s 33-acre Benton County ranch where they raise sheep and goats.

“He’s destined to be a farmer,” Angel said.

The family recently moved from Portland to rural Benton County to achieve their dream of owning a farm.

The two have a blended family of nine children.

Finchley’s name was derived from Atticus Finch, the fictional character in Harper Lee’s novel “To Kill a Mockingbird.”

“Our 15-year-old suggested it after reading ‘To Kill a Mockingbird at school,’” Angel said. “We liked Finch, but then we wanted something longer for Finch to separate Ceperich.”

To celebrate Good Sam’s first baby of 2023, Good Samaritan Regional Medical Center

presented the Ceperich family with two gift baskets that included a onesie, blanket

and washcloths.
