Benton County Schools Credit Union plans to build a new structure on South Seventh Street, according to a site design review application with the city.
Plans call for the construction of a 3,400-square-foot building with 1,000 square feet of tenant space on two lots that sit on the corner of South Seventh and Applegate streets.
BCSCU, an educational and public employee credit union for Benton and Linn counties, dates back to 1953. Its Philomath branch is currently located at 401 S. 19th St.
The application is in a public comment period. Those who want to comment are invited to do so in writing to the city manager’s office at City Hall with the deadline set at 5 p.m. Monday, Feb. 26.
Associated with the project are Green Cascades LLC, an Albany-based civil design and construction engineering firm, and G. Christianson Construction out of Corvallis. The two lots encompass 0.28 of an acre and are zone general commercial.
According to the site design review, the construction company on behalf of the credit union plans to develop the lots “into a pedestrian and vehicle friendly commercial center, including a customer space for BCSCU patrons with attached tenant retail space for lease.”
Access to the credit union’s parking lot would be off South Seventh Street and feature a one-way entrance and exit. The building’s construction would meet requirements to fit in with the city’s streetscapes-inspired Timber Town theme.
