The Philomath Rotary Club will hear from Benton County Emergency Management Coordinator Chelsea Chytka at its Sept. 15 meeting at Peace Lutheran Church. The Tuesday gathering is scheduled to begin at noon.
The meeting will open with introductions and club announcements before Chytka’s presentation, titled “Benton County Emergency Management Volunteer Corps.”
The meeting is open to Rotarians and members of the Philomath community.
Chytka’s talk is intended to introduce Philomath community members to the Emergency Management Volunteer Corps and explain how trained volunteers support residents before, during and after emergencies. She plans to highlight the range of ways people can contribute based on their own interests, skills and abilities.
Attendees can expect to learn why volunteers play an essential role when emergency services are overwhelmed, and how the EMVC supports functions such as call center operations, sheltering, reunification, damage assessment and emergency preparedness education. Chytka will also discuss how residents can strengthen community resilience by becoming better prepared, sharing information, partnering with the program or volunteering directly.
Lunch will be provided and organizers are asking attendees to RSVP by contacting any Philomath Rotarian to help with meal planning.
