Individuals are identified in the log only if arrested on felony charges. Juveniles are not identified. People arrested or suspected of crimes are considered innocent until proven otherwise.

THURSDAY, FEB. 27

• 8:37 a.m. — BCSO responded to a report of a one-vehicle crash on Highway 34 about 10 miles west of Alsea involving a Dodge van that had gone into a ditch. Nobody was found with the van and it was later determined that the driver was a 57-year-old Seal Rock man. The van went off the road into the ditch with the driver’s side leaning over an area that flows from the hill into the Alsea River. The deputy noted that he could spell gas coming from the vehicle and that fuel was possibly going into the water flow. The vehicle was later towed from the scene.

• 3:34 p.m. — BCSO stopped on West Hills Road about one-third of a mile east of Southwest Reservoir Road to check on a Ford Expedition that was parked illegally and had only a rear license plate. The driver, a 44-year-old Roseburg woman, said the vehicle had broken down and she was charging the battery. The woman was issued a warning about parking at the location and the vehicle was later moved.

• 5:04 p.m. — BCSO responded to a report of a motorcycle crash on Kings Valley Highway about 3 miles north of the Highway 20 intersection. Upon arrival, Hoskins-Kings Valley Rural Fire was rendering aid to the motorcycle’s operator, a 57-year-old Salem man. The man was transported to Good Samaritan Regional Medical Center in Corvallis with minor injuries. 

• 11:07 p.m. — BCSO arrested a 54-year-old Philomath man on a warrant for failure to appear after stopping to offer assistance to a motorist who was stopped on Highway 34 about 6 miles northeast of Alsea. The man was cited in lieu of custody.

SATURDAY, MARCH 1

•12:45 p.m. — BCSO arrested a 51-year-old Newport man on a misdemeanor charge of driving while suspended during a traffic stop on Highway 20 about 3 miles west of Blodgett. The man was cited in lieu of custody and waited at the location for a valid driver to arrive. He was also cited for driving without valid insurance.

• 2:33 p.m. — BCSO responded to a report of a single-vehicle crash on Harris Road about a half-mile south of Highway 20 involving a Chevrolet van driven by a 34-year-old Eugene man that had gone into a grassy field. No injuries were reported and there was minimal damage to the field and van. The vehicle was able to be driven away and no citations were issued.

SUNDAY, MARCH 2

• 7:21 a.m. — BCSO responded to a single-vehicle crash off Kings Valley Highway near Shrike Way. Upon arrival, the deputy learned that the crash had occurred earlier the same day at approximately 1 a.m. when the Honda Accord driven by a 62-year-old Medford man was headed to the Oregon Coast with his wife and grandchild. No injuries were reported. The driver arranged for his own vehicle recovery and towing.

• 1:19 p.m. — BCSO arrested a 29-year-old Keizer woman and a 29-year-old Monmouth man on active warrants after the deputy witnessed a van towing a trailer fail to use a turn signal to turn off Kings Valley Highway into the Kings Valley Store parking lot. In addition to the warrant, the man, who was driving, also had a suspended license. Both were cited and released.

MONDAY, MARCH 3

• 1:31 p.m. — BCSO arrested a 22-year-old Lebanon man on misdemeanor charges of driving under the influence of intoxicants (drugs) and reckless driving after a deputy observed him in a Toyota Highlander turn west from Harris Road onto Wren Road without stopping at a stop sign.

WEDNESDAY, MARCH 5

• 9:17 a.m. — BCSO transported two stray female labs from the 24200 block of Evergreen Road to Heartland Humane Society where they were impounded.

• 1:55 p.m. — BCSO responded to a report of trespassing about 8 miles west of Alsea involving a Toyota Tacoma with a canopy that was driving back and forth on a property owner’s private road. The deputy determined that a crime had not taken place.

• 4:07 p.m. — BCSO arrested a 27-year-old Newport woman on a misdemeanor charge of unlawful cutting and transport of special forest products after coming upon a Ford E150 van parked along a forest road off Benner Ridge Road about 14 miles west of Alsea. BCSO seized an estimated 180 bouquets of packaged salal. 

THURSDAY, MARCH 6

• 4:04 p.m. — Police arrested a 50-year-old Newport man on misdemeanor charges of driving under the influence of intoxicants (alcohol .20 or above) and reckless endangerment following a single-vehicle crash into a power pole on Highway 20 about 1 mile west of Philomath. The driver was not injured.
