TUESDAY, JULY 29
• 1:49 p.m. — BCSO responded to a report of a stolen car trailer from Mid Valley Gravel on Clemens Mill Road. The victim, a 26-year-old Salem man, believed the 22-foot Max Built car trailer, valued at $2,500, had been taken sometime between July 21-29. The investigation led to contact with the Philomath Police Department, which explained the trailer had been reported as an abandoned vehicle at the end of Landmark Drive on July 12. The trailer had been tagged and towed on July 17. The victim was directed to contact the towing company. An incident report shows that a 35-year-old Corvallis man was arrested on a charge of failure to appear on traffic offense.
SUNDAY, AUG. 10
• 12:01 p.m. — BCSO responded to a report of a hit-and-run incident on Peterson Road involving a pickup towing a camping trailer that hit and damaged a property owner’s fence before driving away. The damage was estimated at $40.
• 2:07 p.m. — BCSO, while patrolling Marys Peak Road, came upon a vehicle with its hazard lights on. The driver reported that a motorcycle had gone over the side and into the brush off the roadway. The motorcycle’s operator, a 29-year-old Corvallis man, said he was not injured but needed help getting his KTM back up to the road. Several vehicles with Bureau of Land Management personnel were driving by and stopped to help. Using a rope, the bike was pulled up to the roadway and the man was able to drive from the scene.
MONDAY, AUG. 11
• 12:15 p.m. — BCSO responded to a two-vehicle crash at the intersection of Bellfountain Road and Llewellyn Road. According to a BCSO incident report, a 57-year-old Philomath woman was driving south on Bellfountain Road and crashed into a vehicle that was attempting to cross the road on Llewellyn. All occupants were wearing seatbelts and all airbags deployed. No injuries were reported. The driver of the vehicle that was attempting to cross the road was apparently a minor (BCSO did not provide age, sex or city of residence).
TUESDAY, AUG. 12
• BCSO contacted a 33-year-old Brownsville man (time not reported) via phone call regarding damage to his 2017 Ford F-350 that had been parked in the gravel lot at the intersection of Highway 20 and Kings Valley Highway. The vehicle’s entire passenger side had been scraped by another vehicle. The man estimated the damage at more than $10,000.
WEDNESDAY, AUG. 13
• 7:33 a.m. — BCSO responded to a report of a hit-and-run incident on Highway 20 near Harlan-Burnt Woods Road involving a log truck that reportedly sideswiped a Dodge pickup. BCSO also received a call from the log truck driver, a 51-year-old Dallas man, that reported that the driver of the pickup, a 68-year-old Portland man, had swerved into him. Both drivers were interviewed near 26th Street and Main Street in Philomath. The responding deputy also interviewed a 31-year-old Newport man who was driving behind the two vehicles and witnessed the incident, which occurred approximately 200 feet east of the highway’s intersection with Harlan-Burnt Woods Road. The witness believed the truck driver was at fault and explained that he had attempted to pass the pickup in an area not meant for passing. The sideswipe reportedly occurred during the pass. The deputy photographed the damaged vehicles and completed a Department of Motor Vehicles crash report.
• 5:51 p.m. — BCSO responded to an incident at Beazell Memorial Forest on Kings Valley Highway involving a 2024 Tesla that crashed into a fence post at the park. According to an incident report, a 61-year-old Independence woman reported that as she was arriving at the park, her foot was stuck in the pedals of her vehicle and she accidentally pushed down on the accelerator pedal which led to the crash. No citations were issued.
THURSDAY, AUG. 14
• 5:39 a.m. — BCSO responded to a crash at North 19th Street and Industrial Way involving a 2011 Honda Element that swerved to avoid hitting a deer. The driver, a 69-year-old Albany woman, reported no injuries and was given courtesy transport to her place of employment in Philomath. The vehicle was towed from the scene.
