Mackenzie is from San Diego, California. She obtained a bachelor’s in journalism from the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa, where she published award-winning multimedia pieces on Kānaka Maoli, art, and public land management. Having noticed it within her own community, the backbone of her journalistic career is grounded in bridging the gap between information and the representation of Native people. She finds solace in a good book, laughter, and nature.
