Most children in isolated, rural areas who benefit from support services receive the majority of those services through their local school district.

Alsea School Family Outreach (AFSO) Coordinator Sara Littlefield has been working hard to generate partnerships for Alsea School District with several local organizations and funders.

The school district has signed a memorandum of understanding with Vina Moses Center for children and families to continue as an outlet in Alsea providing school materials and physical resources to the school families of Alsea.

AFSO also partners with Strengthening Rural Families to bring monthly hands-on fun at Alsea Pups Preschool for Alsea preschoolers as part of Squishtivities. The Siletz Tribal Charitable Foundation recently awarded the school district a grant to purchase basic clothing and school supplies for students.

Local anonymous Alsea donors have created a fund through AFSO to help families with the cost of getting to extracurricular activities that can only be found “over the hill” in Philomath and Corvallis.

The Alsea School District family sends out a hearty thanks to all these generous donors to AFSO.

Currently, ASFO is accepting donations for boxed snacks for classrooms as well as new and gently used and laundered socks, underwear, sneakers, sweats, leggings and T-shirts in all sizes. Cash donations are always accepted to purchase supplies for local families.
