A head-on collision Tuesday claimed the life of a 70-year-old man from Wrangell, Alaska, on Highway 20 about 2 miles west of Toledo, Oregon State Police reported.
Law enforcement responded to a report of a two-vehicle crash at 5:02 p.m. Sept. 5. OSP’s preliminary investigation determined that a Suzuki Sidekick driven by the Alaska man, James Richard Lebo, was headed east on the highway when the vehicle veered into the oncoming lane of traffic and struck a Toyota Tacoma head-on that was headed in the opposite direction.
Lebo was declared deceased at the scene. The Toyota’s driver, a 49-year-old Toledo man, was not injured.
Highway 20 was shut down in both directions for roughly 2-1/2 hours, officials said.
OSP said it was assisted at the scene by the Toledo Police Department, the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office, Toledo Fire Department, Newport Fire Department and the Oregon Department of Transportation.
