A head-on collision Tuesday claimed the life of a 70-year-old man from Wrangell, Alaska, on Highway 20 about 2 miles west of Toledo, Oregon State Police reported.

Law enforcement responded to a report of a two-vehicle crash at 5:02 p.m. Sept. 5. OSP’s preliminary investigation determined that a Suzuki Sidekick driven by the Alaska man, James Richard Lebo, was headed east on the highway when the vehicle veered into the oncoming lane of traffic and struck a Toyota Tacoma head-on that was headed in the opposite direction.

Lebo was declared deceased at the scene. The Toyota’s driver, a 49-year-old Toledo man, was not injured.

Highway 20 was shut down in both directions for roughly 2-1/2 hours, officials said.
