Supporting Black-owned businesses is important during every month of the year, but for February’s Black History Month, Beaver’s Digest thought it would be appropriate to generate a comprehensive list of Black-owned businesses in and around Corvallis.
There are a handful of Black-owned businesses here in the area, in any realm from financiering to baked goods:
People of Colour Clothing is a garment brand designed to connect racial awareness to a wearable medium. Founded by Darius North, a graduate of Oregon State University, the company creates attractive shirts and hoodies with phrases like, “My ethnicity is not your guessing game,” and “There is nothing minor about us.”

Run by another Oregon State alum, Financial Freedom is a wealth management group located in downtown Corvallis. Don’t forget to loosen your waistband and make a sizable check out to Terra’s Tastee Treats this spring, where she will be opening her doors once more to serve homestyle Southern desserts and barbecue to hungry Corvallis residents. Located at 252 SW Madison St. Suite 160 in Corvallis.
Bakerzdozen sports classic and specialty donuts as well as a good old fashioned smashburger. What started as a misunderstanding, when the donut shop ordered over 30 lbs. of ground beef instead of bacon, turned into a successful venture that they have kept up for years. Their products can be found in several stores in the Corvallis-Albany area, and can be purchased directly from their location in Albany, at 1670 SE Hill St.
Many Corvallis Oregonians are familiar with The Biere Library on Monroe, which sports rotating food specials and a substantial catalog of beer, as well as signature cocktails. The venue also houses live performances from local bands and is a centrifuge for many locals and visiting beer enjoyers.
For a juicy, rich, flavorful burger and accompanying sides, make sure to find your way into First Burger, Albany’s legendary burger joint. First Burger’s menu will let you get your burger just about any way, with a pile of whatever side you can think of. Soul Force Education strives to continue Martin Luther King Jr.’s vision of “the beloved community” through diversity, equity and inclusion work.
