The Philomath High School girls tennis team opened its season on a high note Tuesday with an 8-0 shutout at Class 5A Lebanon.

The Warriors took all but one set and had a 103-36 advantage in games won in the eight varsity matches. The closest match of the afternoon occurred at No. 3 doubles where juniors Lacey Bacho and Logan Cook outlasted their opponents, 7-5, 3-6, 6-2.

At No. 1 singles, senior Adele Beckstead defeated Lebanon’s Finley Vandiver, 6-1, 6-0. Junior Lucy King was pushed at No. 2 singles by Lebanon’s Alison Frey but she pulled out the win, 7-5, 7-6. Elsewhere in singles, winners were junior Lucie Oster (6-0, 6-0) at No. 3 and junior Maggie Real (6-1, 6-0) at No. 4.

Junior Maggie King and sophomore Clara Neville posted a 6-1, 6-0 victory at No. 1 doubles. The No. 2 doubles team of sophomores Elisabeth Workman and Lucy Thomas won by a 6-2, 6-0 count. And at No. 4 doubles, freshmen Bethany Cannon and Bella Nuñez were 6-2, 7-5 winners.

Philomath’s girls are scheduled to play again Thursday with a trip to Catlin Gabel.
