Philomath High junior Ana Candanoza and senior Joe Barnes both turned in bronze medal performances Saturday in the Emerald Ski League’s third competition of the season.

Racing at Willamette Pass Ski Area, which is 27 miles east of Oakridge, Candanoza finished with a combined time of 2:26.02 with runs of 1:13.06 and 1:12.96. Ella Eby of Sisters won with a combined time of 2:13.24 and McKenna Reeve of Corvallis was second at 2:15.00.

Barnes had times of 1:09.34 and 1:01.25 in his two runs for a total of 2:10.59. Styopa Myagkov of Sisters won with a total time of 1:57.26. Spencer Tisdel of Sisters was second at 2:08.97.

PHS junior Monte Jones finished 19th at 2:59.65. Jones had a 1:35.39 on his first run and 1:24.26 on his second.

Earlier in the week in a Wednesday meet at Hoodoo Ski Area, Barnes finished second to Myagkov with a total time over two slalom runs of 1:31.09 — 44.44 on the first and 46.65 on the second. Myagkov, who has won all three Emerald Ski League events, edged him by less than 2 seconds with a total time of 1:29.32.

Jones had runs of 1:09.74 and 1:17.87 for a total of 2:27.61, which put him at 23rd overall.

In the girls slalom at Hoodoo, Candanoza was disqualified in her first run for straddling a gate. But she regrouped and turned in a time of 55.16 seconds — third-fastest in the second run.

Emerald Ski League action continues Feb. 1 with skiers competing in the giant slalom at Willamette.
