SMART Reading, a statewide children’s literacy nonprofit, is seeking volunteers in Philomath, the organization announced.
SMART Reading provides support for young readers such as individualized reading time and access to books. Volunteers are needed to read with students weekly at Philomath Elementary School.
Data collected from teachers annually shows that 90% of students who participate in SMART improve in comprehension, vocabulary development, motivation, enjoyment and other key metrics.
“Volunteering with SMART Reading is a fun, meaningful way to impact kids right here in our community,” Tanja Petal, program manager, said through a press release. “I regularly have volunteers tell me that the hour they spend at SMART is the best part of their week.”
