The 45th annual Summit Summer Festival returns to the rural mountain community Saturday with activities from noon-7 p.m. in and outside of the Summit Community Center.
Barbara Sobo Gast, the festival’s community publicity coordinator, describes the event as “a full day of old-time country fun, crafts, arts, friendship and music in the small rural, tight-knit creative community of Summit.”
Admission is free and all ages are welcome to the festival. Summit is located a little less than 9 miles northwest of Blodgett.
‘Come sit on a bale of hay, eat fresh corn, buy a pie, see a world of creative magic around you, sing along, chat it up with neighbors and friends, take a musical adventure, take some deep breaths and relax,” Sobo Gast said.
Live music and performances, 30 craft booths, an art exhibit, pie and silent auctions, food, watermelon-eating contests for youth and adults, and the all-ages marching band and parade are among the activities.
In addition, the Summit Star Quilters, which have been active since 1972, create a quilt to raffle off to support youth scholarships that are awarded to every graduating high school senior in the community. The 2024 raffle quilt, “Autumn Symphony,” is a tribute to the many quilters who have pieced and quilted together over the decades. It will be on display in the Summit Community Center with raffle tickets available on site.

T-shirts with this year’s poster art design by 94-year-old Earl Newman will be available to purchase until sold out.
The Summit Summer Festival represents the major fundraiser for the Summit Community Center, which supports annual scholarships, ongoing community projects and local volunteer groups.
Organizers advise folks to bring drinking water and snacks. Dogs and alcohol are not permitted.
To find the Summit Summer Festival, take Highway 20 west out of Philomath, take a right onto Summit Highway (U.S. Highway 180) and follow the road to Summit.
