The Philomath High School softball team lost to visiting Pendleton Friday, 24-3, in a game stopped after three innings on the 15-run mercy rule.
The Buckaroos (6-3) pounded out 13 hits and took advantage of 10 Philomath errors in the victory. Junior Reese Furstenberg went 4 for 4 with a home run and four RBIs. Senior Madaline Schmacher was 2 for 3 with a double, triple and five RBIs. Senior Avery Krigbaum and junior Ella Sams hit home runs.
The Warriors avoided a shutout with three runs in the third inning. Junior Zoee Howard led off the inning with a walk and moved up when freshman Riley Mason reached on an error. Junior Lilia Leman put a ball in play on a ground out that scored Howard.
Junior Janae Traglia connected on a one-out double to give PHS two base runners while breaking up Pendleton’s no-hit bid. Junior Laighla Hockema then drove in both Mason and Traglia with a single, although she was thrown out trying to stretch it to second. Junior Hannah Bennett kept the inning going with a single but the game ended on a ground out.
The Warriors (0-8) are scheduled to play at 10 a.m. Saturday at home against unbeaten La Grande.
