Residents and motorists can expect to see construction activity in Philomath along Main Street as the Oregon Department of Transportation upgrades ADA-compliant curb ramps along Highway 20.
ODOT crews are demolishing and installing curb ramps throughout the project area as part of an effort to improve accessibility for pedestrians, the agency reported. The work is part of a broader statewide initiative that also includes similar projects in Corvallis, Astoria, Cottage Grove, Independence, Monmouth, Newberg, Salem, Keizer and Springfield.
In Philomath, work is planned this summer and fall at various locations along the highway from 16th Street to Newton Street. Crews are scheduled to work during the day Monday through Thursday, with occasional night or Friday work as needed, officials said.
Those traveling through the work zones should plan for lane shifts, shoulder and lane closures, sidewalk and curb ramp closures, and flaggers directing traffic. ODOT is asking motorists and pedestrians to watch for workers and drive with caution in construction areas.
Sidewalk closures will be in effect at active work sites and pedestrians are asked to follow posted detour routes to the nearest available crosswalk. Businesses near affected corners are expected to remain open during construction, the agency added.
ODOT reported that residents should also be prepared for construction noise, including saw-cutting.
More information about the project, including an interactive map showing which curb ramps are planned for upgrades and when, is available at oregon.gov/odot/projects.
