Editor’s note: This report is based on information submitted by the Philomath Police Department. All calls for service may not be included. The status of incidents might change after further investigation. Locations are approximate and may not be included if it could identify victims of certain crimes of a sensitive nature (sexual abuse, stalking, etc.). Individuals are identified in the log only if arrested on felony charges. Calls that involve the Department of Human Services and minor children are not included. Juveniles are not identified. People arrested or suspected of crimes are considered innocent until proven otherwise.

FRIDAY, JAN. 23

• 4:14 p.m. — Police assisted the Benton County Sheriff’s Office in the 1600 block of College Street on a case involving identity theft.

• 8:43 p.m. — Police responded to a report of a suspicious person in the area of North 20th Street and College Street involving a man who had walked through a church parking lot transporting scrap wood. Officers later contacted the individual and there was no report of an arrest.

Other calls: Police responses included repossessed vehicles at 1:29 a.m. (North 19th Street) and 2:34 a.m. (College Street). In addition, police assisted another agency on a call at 10:22 p.m. (Southwest Philomath Boulevard, Corvallis). PPD reported three traffic stops.

SATURDAY, JAN. 24

• 8:14 p.m. — Police arrested a 55-year-old Philomath woman in the 100 block of North 14th Street on a warrant out of Albany Municipal Court.

• 8:15 p.m. — Police arrested a woman (age and city of residence not reported) on a misdemeanor charge of harassment during a fight disturbance in the 700 block of Main Street. Police issued a citation in lieu of custody.

• 10:40 p.m. — Police arrested Richard L. Gerding Jr., 52, of Philomath, on a Class C felony charge of felon in possession of a firearm after police had been dispatched to a disturbance in the 500 block of South 19th Street.

Other calls: Police responses included found property at 4:33 p.m. (Pioneer Street) and a dog at large at 10:12 p.m. (Applegate Street and South 23rd Street). PPD reported seven traffic stops.

SUNDAY, JAN. 25

• 11:59 a.m. — Police responded to a call from a woman on Pioneer Street who reported that her boyfriend needed medical attention. Medics were reportedly dispatched and the man was transported via ambulance to Good Samaritan Regional Medical Center.

Other calls: Police responses included noise disturbance at 12:48 a.m. (Newton Street), mental health issue at 12:17 p.m., citizen assistance at 2:36 p.m. (North 19th Street) and a noise disturbance at 2:39 p.m. (Maple Street). PPD reported two traffic stops.

MONDAY, JAN. 26

• 11:25 a.m. — Police arrested a 43-year-old Philomath man in the 1200 block of North 19th Street on multiple warrants out of Benton County Circuit Court. The man was cited in lieu of custody.

• 2:35 p.m. — Police responded to a report of a stalking order violation in the 1200 block of North 19th Street. After consulting with the district attorney’s office, police informed the individual to pursue civil action.

Other calls: Police responses included a noise disturbance at 4:13 a.m. (Maple Street) and a dog at large at 4:27 p.m. (Applegate Street). In addition, police assisted another agency on a call at 12:07 a.m. (Highway 20 and Noon Road). PPD reported three traffic stops.

TUESDAY, JAN. 27

• 7:43 p.m. — Police responded to a report of a man who was walking in the lane of travel near Applegate Street and South 23rd Street. Police were unable to locate the man.

Other calls: Police responses included a report of a suspicious person at 4:15 p.m. (North Ninth Street), found phone turned in at 6:18 p.m. (Philomath Police Station) and a non-911 issue at 11:36 p.m. (North 19th Street). PPD reported three traffic stops.

WEDNESDAY, JAN. 28

• 12:22 p.m. — Police responded to a traffic complaint and warned high school students about their reported driving behavior. 

• 2:03 p.m. — Police responded to a report of apparent shots fired in the 200 block of North Ninth Street with a resident in the area concerned that a neighbor was shooting wild turkeys. The individual was having work done on a house and the noise was reportedly related to construction activities.

• 7:51 p.m. — Police arrested a 55-year-old Philomath woman in the 100 block of North 14th Street on a warrant out of Philomath Municipal Court.

Other calls: Police responses included a private property tow at 10:18 a.m. (College Street). In addition, police assisted another agency on a call at 1:17 a.m (Chapel Drive and South 19th Street). PPD reported three traffic stops.

THURSDAY, JAN. 29

• No calls of significance were reported.

Other calls: Police responses included a parking complaint at 9:20 a.m. (North Eighth Street), extra patrol at 11:03 a.m. (Main Street), suicidal subject at 11:35 a.m., welfare check at 3:04 p.m. (South 19th Street) and a suspicious circumstance at 3:55 p.m. (Main Street). PPD reported two traffic stops.
