The Philomath High School swim teams turned in first-place performances at a tri-meet Wednesday at Clemens Community Pool with the boys cruising to victory and the girls tying for first place.
The Philomath boys accumulated 146 points to easily outdistance Kennedy (34) and Sisters (23), while the Warrior girls tied Sisters with 67 points apiece, well ahead of Kennedy’s 21 points.
The boys team claimed first place in nine of 11 events with a showcase of depth across multiple disciplines.
Junior Lucas Brandt and senior Mason Stevens led the way with two individual victories each. Brandt won the 50-yard freestyle in 22.94 seconds and the 100 breaststroke in 1:02.62. Stevens was the lone entry in the 200 individual medley and finished in 2:44.94 and also won the 100 backstroke in 1:10.62.
Senior Cameron McLennan touched first in the 100 butterfly (1:01.10), sophomore Nico Mayo Carrasco won the 100 freestyle (1:03.13) and junior Wyatt Coen captured the 500 freestyle (6:24.41).
The Warriors swept all three relay events on the boys side. The team of Stevens, Brandt, McLennan and senior Blake Hauck won the 200 medley relay in 1:52.50. Hauck, Coen, McLennan and Brandt teamed up to win the 200 freestyle relay in 1:44.66. The 400 freestyle relay team of freshman Evan Bennett, freshman Milo Morrison, freshman Deaglan Pindell and Mayo Carrasco was unopposed and had a time of 4:55.22.
The Philomath girls were also the lone entry in the 400 freestyle relay but earned first-place points with junior Charlotte Storch, junior Megan Ward, sophomore Hailey Smith and freshman Adelina Kowalewski posting a time of 5:09.50. The girls accumulated a number of points with several runner-up finishes.
Salem Academy had been scheduled to compete but was unable to make the trip.
Philomath’s swim teams are scheduled to compete at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Blanchet Invitational at the Kroc Center in Salem. The Warriors will then swim their final home meet next Wednesday at 4:30 p.m.
