The city’s new Public Art Committee will meet for the first time at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday at Philomath City Hall.

The committee replaced an earlier ad hoc group that guided artistic elements during the recently completed Downtown Safety and Streetscape Improvements Project. That project included decorative sidewalk inlays and plinths designed to serve as future locations for public artwork throughout downtown.

With the streetscape infrastructure now in place, the city dissolved the original committee and established the new body to oversee the next phase of Philomath’s public art vision.

The five-person committee includes Jennifer Edwards, Kathryn Jederlinich, Estella Murphrey, Lori Paul and Nina Petrovich. Mayor Christopher McMorran will serve in the role of City Council liaison.

Wednesday’s agenda includes three main items. Assistant City Manager Chelsea Starner will provide background on the committee’s formation and purpose, followed by discussion of a temporary art program to place artwork downtown while a more comprehensive plan is developed. The committee also plans to begin work on the drafting of a formal public art plan.

In addition to attending the meeting in person, it can also be viewed on the city’s YouTube channel.
