Editor’s note: This report is based on information submitted by the Philomath Police Department. All calls for service may not be included. The status of incidents might change after further investigation. Locations are approximate and may not be included if it could identify victims of certain crimes of a sensitive nature (sexual abuse, stalking, etc.). Individuals are identified in the log only if arrested on felony charges. Calls that involve the Department of Human Services and minor children are not included. Juveniles are not identified. People arrested or suspected of crimes are considered innocent until proven otherwise.
FRIDAY, OCT. 17
• 5:40 a.m. — Police responded to a report of trespassing at a business in the 100 block of North 14th Street. According to an incident report, an 18-year-old woman was found sleeping under the counter — the second night she had been contacted in the business after hours. At the owner’s request, the woman was trespassed from the property and told she would be arrested if she returned to the premises.
• 1:50 p.m. — Police assisted the Benton County Sheriff’s Office at the scene of a single-vehicle crash on Highway 20 just east of the Highway 34 junction involving a 78-year-old Cove man in a GMC Sierra towing a camper trailer who went off the road to avoid hitting a school bus. BCSO reported that the vehicle went into a ditch while crashing into a railroad warning sign and a chain-link fence. No injuries were reported.
• 2:25 p.m. — Police responded to a report from a bus driver (address not reported) who found a baggy with a white powder.
• 10:44 p.m. — Police arrested a 29-year-old Philomath man on a misdemeanor charge of driving under the influence of intoxicants (alcohol .20 or above) during a traffic stop in the 1000 block of Main Street. The driver was transported to Benton County Jail.
Other calls: Police responses included Philomath High School homecoming parade detail at 9:16 a.m. (Applegate Street), wallet found at 3:22 p.m. (South 14th Street) and a dog at large at 4 p.m. (Adelaide Drive and Pioneer Street). PPD reported four traffic stops.
SATURDAY, OCT. 18
• 9:01 p.m. — Police responded to a call determined to be a mental health issue involving a report of suspicious people going into a residence. It was discovered that the individual’s roommate had unknowingly ordered a pizza.
Other calls: Police responses included a report of an abandoned vehicle at 2:06 p.m. (Quail Glenn Drive), argument at 6:07 p.m. (Main Street), non-criminal issue at 8:25 p.m. (Newton Street), argument at 9:09 p.m. (Philomath City Park) and a loud party at 10:54 p.m. (Melvill Crescent). PPD reported no traffic stops.
SUNDAY, OCT. 19
• 7:55 a.m. — Police responded to a report of a driver that had backed up into a concrete pillar in the parking lot of a business in the 1800 block of Main Street. The incident caused minor damage to the vehicle. No injuries were reported.
• Time NA — Police arrested a 16-year-old juvenile on a felony charge of first-degree sex abuse/physical molestation related to a case that dated back to early August.
Other calls: Police responses included a dog barking at 7:30 a.m. (Pioneer Street), roommates arguing at 12:49 p.m. (North Ninth Street), citizen contact at 6:03 p.m. (Applegate Street) and a stolen purse found at 8:29 p.m. (Main Street). In addition, police assisted another agency on a call at 8:54 p.m. (Highway 20). PPD reported 11 traffic stops.
MONDAY, OCT. 20
• 1:48 a.m. — Police responded to a report of a single gunshot heard in the 600 block of North 11th Street. Officers checked the area.
• 2:27 a.m. — Police responded to a report from an individual reporting a threat that private photographs would be shared online if not paid money.
Other calls: Police responses included a dog barking at 2:28 p.m. (Pioneer Street). In addition, police assisted other agencies on calls at 3:46 a.m. (Southwest Reservoir Avenue and Southwest West Hills Road) and 10:24 a.m. (South 30th Street). PPD reported four traffic stops.
TUESDAY, OCT. 21
• 3:32 p.m. — Police reported a city ordinance violation in the 2600 block of Applegate Street involving a yard with piles of garbage with reports of rat sightings around the property.
Other calls: Police responses included a welfare check at 2:39 p.m. (Main Street) and a dog barking at 7:28 p.m. (South 17th Street). In addition, police assisted other agencies on calls at 5:58 a.m. (Highway 20 and Shrike Way) and 11:04 p.m. (Newton Street). PPD reported five traffic stops.
WEDNESDAY, OCT. 22
• 1:13 a.m. — Police found a man sitting at the edge of the road in the grass at Marys River Park and Natural Area. He was advised of the park’s hours and he moved along.
• 1:58 a.m. — Police responded to a report of a possible car prowler in the 2000 block of Main Street involving a man with a flashlight looking into vehicles. Officers were unable to locate anyone in the area and no signs of criminal activity were discovered.
• 2:42 a.m. — Police arrested a 48-year-old Corvallis man in the 1700 block of Main Street on a misdemeanor charge of failure to report as a sex offender.
• 9:25 a.m. — Police responded to a report of the theft of propane from Marys Peak True Value. The loss was estimated at $72.59.
• 8:36 p.m. — Police arrested a 54-year-old Philomath man in the 100 block of South 13th Street on a misdemeanor charge of driving under the influence of intoxicants (alcohol .08 through .14).
Other calls: Police responses included suspicious vehicles at 8:09 a.m. (North 19th Street and Main Street), trespassing at 2:38 p.m. (Main Street), report of speeding vehicles at 8:25 p.m. (Main Street) and a welfare check at 9:36 p.m. (Main Street). In addition, police assisted another agency on a call at 1:57 p.m. (Newton Street). PPD reported one traffic stop.
THURSDAY, OCT. 23
• 4:54 a.m. — Police responded to a report of a car prowler in the 200 block of North 14th Street. The responding officer reported a juvenile matching the description but was not able to develop probable cause for an arrest.
• 9:16 p.m. — Police arrested a 39-year-old Philomath man in the 1200 block of North 19th Street on a misdemeanor charge of driving under the influence of intoxicants (alcohol .15 through .19). The man was cited in lieu of custody.
Other calls: Police responses included a dog barking at 3:22 a.m. (North Eighth Street), bike traffic at 4:59 a.m. (North 16th Street and College Street), welfare check at 5:50 a.m. (Main Street), noise disturbance at 6:30 a.m. (North 19th Street), parking complaint at 3:59 p.m. (Chapel Drive), park ordinance violation at 7:05 p.m. (College Street) and a dog barking at 8:34 p.m. (Vincent Street). In addition, police assisted another agency on a call at 7:59 p.m (Newgate Drive) and performed a drug influence evaluation at 10:54 p.m. for the Albany Police Department (Center Street Southeast and 13th Avenue Southeast, Albany). PPD reported one traffic stop.
