Acclaimed pianist and composer John Nilsen will perform a free concert at 10:30 a.m. Sunday at the College United Methodist Church in Philomath.
The concert is open to the public with a freewill offering accepted during the event.
Nilsen, a Pacific Northwest native, brings impressive credentials to the performance. He was inducted into the Oregon Music Hall of Fame last year and earned the prestigious designation of “Yamaha Signature Piano Artist” in 2021.
A multi-talented musician, Nilsen is an accomplished pianist, guitarist, composer, lyricist and vocalist. Born in Seattle and raised primarily in Portland, he began his musical journey early — studying piano with his mother at age 6 and teaching himself guitar by age 12.
“He loves to get out on the rivers, into the forests and onto the mountains of the region,” Nilsen’s online biography states. “The people, landscapes, weather and tenor of life in the Pacific Northwest frequently influence Nilsen’s musical themes.”
The College United Methodist Church is located at 1123 Main St.
