The Philomath High swim teams got in another competition before shifting focus to districts with an appearance Saturday at a four-school meet at Sweet Home.
Junior Lucas Brandt won two events and senior Cameron McLennan and junior Kate Burriel also had wins in the individual events for the Warriors. Philomath’s 200-yard freestyle relays for both the boys and girls had victories as well.
In the 50 freestyle, Brandt won by 0.25 of a second over the runner-up. Brandt’s time of 22.34 seconds was three-tenths of a second off the school-record pace of 22.04, set by Mike Dill in 1999.
Brandt also finished first in another event that Dill holds the school record in — the 100 freestyle. Brandt touched the wall in 49.97 seconds to finish well ahead of the field, the second-place finisher coming in 2.59 seconds later. Dill’s school record time sits at 48.99, a record he also set in 1999.
McLennan had a dominating performance in the 100 butterfly with a time of 59.42, which was nearly 5 seconds faster than the runnerup. The 200 freestyle relay won with a time of 1:41.52 with Brandt, junior Wyatt Coen, McLennan and senior Blake Hauck.
Other top-three individual finishes for the boys included Coen in the 500 freestyle (second, 6:18.24), senior Mason Stevens in the 100 backstroke (second, 1:09.26), freshman Milo Morrison in the 500 freestyle (third, 7:15.35) and McLennan in the 100 breaststroke (third, 1:12.32).
The 200 medley relay for the boys placed second in 1:50.94 with Stevens, Brandt, McLennan and Coen.
Mountain View won the boys competition with 104 points, followed by Philomath with 86, Sweet Home with 67 and Junction City with 37.
For the girls, Burriel’s winning time in the 100 butterfly came in at 1:19.16, which was more than 23 seconds faster than the second-place finisher.
