Philomath High’s girls wrestling team brought home five medals from the Phil Smith Memorial Invitational at Junction City Friday, including three Warriors placing third.

Rielly Ellingsen, Sarah Robertson and Makinzey Harrington all finished third in their respective weight classes to lead Philomath’s medal haul.

Ellingsen, freshman, went 3-1 at 120 pounds with three wins by pin. She opened with a pin of Marshfield’s Marissa Hedrick before falling in the semifinals to St. Helens’ Khloe Anderson. Ellingsen bounced back to win her final two matches by pin, defeating Willamette’s Madilynn Greer in the consolation semifinals and Cottage Grove’s Jaylee Tripp in the third-place match.

Robertson, sophomore, also posted a 3-1 record at 125 pounds. She won her first match in just 52 seconds with a pin of Sisters’ Ava Stotts. After a semifinal loss to Taft’s Janelle Towers, Robertson claimed third place with pins over Cottage Grove’s Emma Adair and Elmira’s Kayli Morgan.

Harrington, freshman, went 4-1 at 135 pounds, winning four straight matches in the consolation bracket after an opening-round loss. She recorded three pins and avenged her earlier defeat to Cascade’s Nevaeh Hampton with a pin in the third-place match.

Freshman Carsyn Pettit-Juvenal placed fifth at 115 pounds with a 2-2 record. She won her consolation bracket match by pin before securing fifth place with a 13-7 decision over Elmira’s Hannah Yaskovic.

Sophomore Addison Liddell rounded out Philomath’s medal winners with a sixth-place finish at 140 pounds, going 1-3 with a technical fall victory.

In the team standings, Philomath finished eighth with 65.5 points. St. Helens won the tournament with 174.5 points.

The next competition for the Warriors is scheduled for Jan. 8 at the Benton County Championships. Philomath is hosting the meet with a start time slated for 4 p.m.
