The Benton County Sheriff’s Office will host its 31st annual Shop with a Cop event in early December, continuing a three-decade tradition of connecting law enforcement with local children during the holiday season.
A group of elementary-aged children selected through collaboration with Benton County Parole and Probation and the Oregon Department of Human Services Child Welfare Office will participate in the program. Each child will receive a gift card to purchase holiday gifts while accompanied by officers from participating agencies.
Public safety personnel from the Benton County Sheriff’s Office, Oregon State University Public Safety, Corvallis Police Department and Philomath Police Department will take part in the shopping event.
“Shop with a Cop is one of the most meaningful traditions we participate in each year,” Sheriff Jef Van Arsdall said in a press release. “It gives our deputies an opportunity to support local kids, build trust, and share in the joy of the season. We’re grateful for the community members and partner agencies who make this special event possible.”
The program operates entirely on donations from law enforcement personnel and community members. Tax-deductible contributions can be made year-round via cash or check payable to “The Sheriff’s Foundation” with “Shop with a Cop” in the memo line.
Donations may be mailed or delivered to Benton County Sheriff’s Office, 180 NW Fifth St., Corvallis, OR 97330.
