The Benton County Sheriff’s Office is asking for the public’s help identifying a man whose body was found last weekend in the Willamette River near Hyak Park.

Deputies responded to the west side of the river at approximately 4:15 p.m. Nov. 29 after a river-goer reported seeing a body floating at river mile 122. Patrol deputies located and recovered the body by boat.

According to the Sheriff’s Office, investigators have had difficulty identifying the deceased man based on available information and limited descriptors. A Benton County Deputy Medical Examiner estimates the man had likely been in the water for more than a week.

The man has two tattoos — one on the upper left arm and one on the right ribcage — as well as a scar on the abdomen near the navel. The Sheriff’s Office said the man’s race is undetermined at this time.

The cause of death has not been determined.

Anyone with information that may help identify the individual is asked to contact the Benton County Sheriff’s Office at BentonCoSheriff@bentoncountyor.gov or call 541-753-8477 (TIPS). The man’s name will be released once identification is confirmed and next of kin are notified.
