The Philomath Sensational Senior Society (PSSS) is moving right along and happy in the meantime. In March we had a fabulous crafting session at Maxtivity, which has secondarily become a social, visiting and laughing session. We are so thankful for the gracious welcome we have received from Sarah at Maxtivity.
Also in March we had a fun game day learning about the Rebekah’s Lodge (built in 1894), our new home away from home — thanks again to the kindness of the Rebekah’s board and especially Colene Lamberty. We loved the warm, inviting feel of the Rebekah’s Lodge and are so happy we get to have our regular meetings there. It seems like a perfect fit. We had several new seniors visit both meetings in March.
Looking forward, we have our crafting meeting at Maxtivity on Tuesday, April 7 at 10 a.m. We will have a guest crafting teacher, Melinda, and are looking forward to learning from her. All seniors are invited to join us for this fun meeting. Did you know that Maxtivity’s supplies are about 90% furnished by donations? So if you have craft supplies, fabric pieces of any size, or yarn sitting around not being used, please consider donating to Maxtivity at 1604 Main St. in Philomath.
On Tuesday, April 14 at 10 a.m. at the Rebekah’s Lodge, 148 N. 13th St., we will have our wonderful Philomath Fire and Rescue Chief Chancy Ferguson as a guest speaker. He will be talking to us about advance directives. If you do not know what an advance directive is, please attend this meeting. This important legal document helps you share your wishes in the event of an accident, heart attack, or any time you may not be conscious.
If you cannot make this meeting, please discuss advance directives with your own physician. Chief Ferguson has a great deal of experience with the benefits of advance directives, as so many of the calls for the fire department involve accidents and emergencies. If you are at all like me, you may have received paperwork for an advance directive but then promptly set it aside at home and “lost” it. The time is now. Chief Ferguson will also answer any questions one might have regarding the fire levy.
PSSS is open and welcoming to anyone 55-plus. You can come to every meeting and event, or pick and choose what works with your schedule. These meetings and events are free, and no one takes roll or judges you. The crafting session at Maxtivity is the first Tuesday of every month at 10 a.m. The regular meeting at the Rebekah’s Lodge is the second Tuesday of every month at 10 a.m. Most of these last just about an hour, and we will let you know if one is planned to go longer. Give us a try!
