The Philomath High girls took first place and the boys were second Wednesday at the Country Fair Classic.
The Warrior girls had three top-10 placewinners with sophomore Cassidy Smart finishing second in 19:07.5, freshman Sienna Bushnell sixth in 21:11.9 and sophomore Reagan Nuño eighth in 21:20.9.
Coquille sophomore Ella Henthorn was the individual winner in 18:59.9.
Also scoring for Philomath were sophomore Libby Kramer (16th, 22:09.8) and senior Lucy King (23rd, 23:09.7). The Warriors had a sixth varsity runner with senior Syd Cothern (42nd, 24:41.9). The girls’ varsity race featured 10 full teams and 78 individual runners.
For the boys, senior Leo Pausch covered the course in 16:46.3 for third place behind Marist Catholic junior Corbin Sage (16:04.4) and Marshfield senior Jaxson Stovall (16:16.2). Philomath senior Lukas Hernandez placed seventh in 17:25.1 in his first 5K of the fall season.
Junior Galen Murch finished 18th in 18:13.9, junior Jacob Hernandez was 36th in 19:07.1 and sophomore Sammy Hernandez was 42nd in 19:36.4 to help the team finish second in the team standings.
Also running varsity was junior Cam Herbert (45th, 19:39.2).

Cottage Grove was first with 67 points to Philomath’s 97. Stayton was third at 130. Fifteen schools had full teams at the meet and the boys’ varsity race featured 110 runners.
Hosted by Elmira High School, the meet features a 5-kilometer course with terrain that includes grassy wetland, dirt trails, mowed green grass, gravel and sand.
Philomath will now take a break from competition for 10 days until a Sept. 20 appearance at The Mook Invite, which is staged at Alderbrook Golf Course in Tillamook. Philomath canceled its participation in the Sept. 13 Stayton Invitational.
