Facing a private school out of Long Beach in its first game Friday at the Surf City Holiday Classic in Huntington Beach, California, the Philomath High girls basketball team had a rough start over the first eight minutes.

The Saints rolled to a 21-5 lead in the first quarter and then held off the Warriors over the final three quarters to post a 65-48 victory. St. Anthony improves to 11-2 on the season while the Warriors drop to 5-3.

Philomath struggled on offense in the first quarter with all five of its points coming on free throws. After the opening frame, the two teams were even over the final three quarters with the Saints holding a 44-43 edge.

Warriors senior Khali Toombs had a team-high 11 points off the bench, a performance that included a pair of 3-pointers. Another player off the bench, sophomore Libby Kramer, drilled two 3-pointers in the third quarter and finished with eight. Junior Jordyn Hood and junior Reagan Heiken also had eight apiece.
