For the second straight season, the Philomath High School cheer squad came away from the state championships with a trophy. Competing Saturday at Oregon City, the Warriors placed fourth in the traditional category.

Going up against seven other schools, Philomath was the first Class 4A team to take the floor Saturday morning and the girls came through with a score of 89.70. Broken down, Philomath scored 25.60 for building skills, 29.10 for tumbling/jumps and an exceptional 37.00 for overall routine, which was the best among all 4A teams.

Newport won the state title with a 105.70, Sweet Home was second at 99.30 and North Bend third at 92.10. The Warriors earned fourth place by 5.80 points over the fifth-place team.
