The Philomath High School boys tennis team dropped a 4-3 decision to Dallas on Thursday in its first home match of the season. The Dragons won at No. 1 singles and swept the doubles matches for the win.
The Warriors posted victories in two of the three singles matches that were played. Junior Nate Houck defeated junior Zachary Creal 6-1, 6-0 at No. 2 singles and freshman Cameron Barlow beat sophomore Charles Moes 6-2, 6-0 at No. 3. Philomath was awarded a forfeit win at No. 4. Dallas senior Georg Hartwig-Schmidt topped senior Lane Schell 7-6, 6-1 at No. 1 singles.
In doubles, Dallas won all three completed matches. Dragons sophomore Zach Rogers and senior Joseph Cerone downed freshmen Lev Grose and Jovi Tavano at No. 1, and sophomores Lucas Boyechko and Jonathon Johnson at No. 2 over junior Kayden Reynolds and sophomore Mika Laukkanen Raskauskas. Freshman Sam Behling and sophomore Eric Cowart rallied past sophomore Samuel Holroyd and freshman Elijah Arthurs 1-6, 7-5, 6-4 at No. 3. Neither team had entries at No. 4 doubles.
Philomath’s next match is scheduled for 4 p.m. March 31 at home against Valley Catholic.
