The Philomath High School swim teams turned in solid performances at the District Sprint Meet Saturday at Albany Community Pool with the boys claiming first place and the girls finishing third in their respective team standings.

The Philomath boys totaled 279 points to edge second-place Stayton (273.5) in a closely contested meet that featured 10 teams. Cascade finished third with 239 points.

Junior Lucas Brandt led the Warriors with a dominant victory in the 100-yard individual medley, touching the wall in 58.10 seconds—nearly 7 seconds ahead of the second-place finisher. Senior Cameron McLennan also claimed an individual title by winning the 50 butterfly in 26.85 seconds.

Sophomore Adelina Kowalewski paced the Philomath girls with a pair of individual victories, capturing first place in both the 100 individual medley (1:13.61) and 50 butterfly (31.04). Her efforts helped the Warriors score 185 points to finish behind Cascade (218) and Sweet Home (209) among the 11 schools that participated.

In the relays, the team of senior Mason Stevens, McLennan, senior Ike Avery and senior Blake Hauck took second in the 200 medley relay with a time of 2:04.54, while Philomath’s B relay of senior Evan Hernandez, junior Kayden Boynton, junior Wyatt Coen and sophomore Nico Mayo Carrasco finished third in 2:07.68.

Stevens added a third-place finish in the 50 breaststroke (35.96). Hernandez was fourth in the 50 backstroke (33.74).

Sophomore Kate Burriel posted a third-place finish in the 500 freestyle, clocking 7:04.69. The 200 medley relay of Kowalewski, sophomore Alyssa Weeber, Burriel and junior Emma Mecham finished third in 2:21.45.

The Warriors will return to action Tuesday for a tri-meet against Stayton and Blanchet Catholic. The meet is scheduled to begin at 4:15 p.m.
