The city’s second annual Philomath Parade of Lights is scheduled for 7 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 21, and organizers are registering those interested in entering the event with a float or display.

The parade’s participants will gather at Philomath High School with a route that heads west on Applegate Street, south on South 15th, west on Cedar Street and then crosses Fern Road into the rodeo grounds. Parade participants can either disassemble there or head south on 13th Street toward Chapel Drive and to the middle school.

Spectators are invited to line the streets with chairs and umbrellas to watch the parade. Organizers said the event will go on even if wet winter weather is present.

Philomath Mayor Chas Jones will identify the parade’s top float with the “Best Lit Float Award.”

The city is partnering with the Philomath Frolic and Rodeo to organize registrations and the parade lineup. Preregistration must be completed by 4 p.m. Dec. 21 (on the day of the parade) to participate.

The registration cost is $15 for the first vehicle and $5 for additional vehicles. Horse entries are $15. Register online at the Philomath Frolic and Rodeo website. Organizers ask participants to take note that Santa will lead the parade and no other live Santas on any other floats will be allowed.

Parade check-in begins at 5 p.m. at the Chapel Drive entrance to the middle school. Floats and other entries must arrive by 6 p.m. to be considered for the mayor’s trophy. No items, including candy and other items, cannot be thrown from floats but handed to spectators.
