A 46-year-old Philomath man has been sentenced to probation and jail time after pleading guilty to sexually abusing a teenage girl.
Paul Raymond Gellatly was arrested in February 2024 and charged with three felony counts of second-degree sexual abuse in Benton County Circuit Court. He pleaded guilty to two counts in August.
Judge Matthew Donohue sentenced Gellatly on Nov. 7 to five years of supervised probation and 210 days in jail, which are to be served in segments during his probation. Gellatly is also required to register as a sex offender. He faces 5-1/2 years in prison if his probation is revoked.
Gellatly formerly operated a local company that performed logging, land clearing and other related tasks.
According to a Benton County Sheriff’s Office deputy’s probable cause affidavit, a friend of Gellatly reported the sexual abuse, saying that he had been bragging about having sex with a 17-year-old girl. The victim’s mother told the investigating deputy that her daughter was “shacking up” with Gellatly and that she “was unable to convince her daughter to return home,” the affidavit states.
The deputy also spoke with the victim, who reportedly said she had sex with Gellatly on one occasion in June 2023.
The conditions of Gellatly’s probation include prohibitions on contact with anyone under age 18. He is not allowed to frequent places primarily meant for minors (playgrounds, arcades, child care agencies, amusement parks, zoos, circuses, etc.) and is also barred from youth organizations (4-H, Boy Scouts, Big Brothers Big Sisters program, Sunday school teaching, etc.).
In addition, he cannot possess or view any type of sexually explicit materials or enter adult entertainment venues. He is also not allowed to have access to a computer or the internet unless approved by his probation officer.
