The Philomath High School swim program hosted a tri-meet Wednesday at Clemens Community Pool with the girls earning a team victory while the boys placed second.
The Warriors girls topped the team standings with 70 points, edging Stayton’s 61 and Blanchet Catholic’s 51. The boys, who were competing without their top swimmer, finished with 77 points behind Stayton’s 113, while Blanchet Catholic took third with 41.
Freshman Adelina Kowalewski led the Warriors with a pair of first-place finishes. Kowalewski won the 50-yard freestyle in 28.50 seconds and took second in the 100 backstroke in 1:14.62. Junior Kate Burriel swept her individual events, capturing first in both the 100 butterfly (1:18.97) and the 500 freestyle (7:00.25). Sophomore Alyssa Weeber added a victory in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:30.72, while junior Emma Mecham placed second in the same event at 1:42.97.
The Warriors’ 200 medley relay team of Kowalewski, Weeber, Burriel and Mecham took first place in 2:15.96. Philomath’s 200 freestyle relay squad of junior Charlotte Storch, Weeber, sophomore Hailey Smith and Mecham finished second in 2:08.53.
Senior Cameron McLennan paced the Philomath boys with a victory in the 100 butterfly (59.82) and a runner-up finish in the 100 freestyle (58.69).
Junior Wyatt Coen won the 500 freestyle in 6:22.31. Senior Mason Stevens contributed a second-place finish in the 100 butterfly with a time of 1:12.81. Senior Blake Hauck took second in the 100 freestyle at 1:00.69.
The Warriors’ 200 medley relay team of Stevens, McLennan, Coen and Hauck placed second with a time of 2:00.62.
Philomath’s next meet will also be at Clemens Community Pool with a Jan. 21 meet against Kennedy, Salem Academy and Sisters. The action is scheduled to begin at 4 p.m. The event will serve as senior day for Sisters (since the school does not have a home venue).
