The Philomath High School girls basketball team will travel to Molalla for the first round of the Class 4A playoffs on Saturday.

The Warriors (14-10) were seeded ninth for state as the top at-large qualifier in the field. Philomath finished third in the Oregon West Conference this season behind Stayton and Cascade. Molalla (14-9) earned the No. 8 seed as champions of the Tri-Valley Conference.

The two schools had four opponents in common this season. Philomath had wins over Sweet Home (55-20 and 50-25), Astoria (64-38) and Newport (73-30 and 59-20) with losses to Stayton (45-37 and 41-36). Molalla went 2-2 against those same teams with wins over Newport (74-26) and Sweet Home (45-37) and losses to Stayton (58-32) and Astoria (49-48).

The tip-off time was scheduled for 6 p.m.

Philomath played a tuneup game for the playoffs on Tuesday night with a 70-37 victory at 5A Corvallis. The Warriors dominated the second half in a game that had been tied, 30-30, at halftime. Philomath outscored the Spartans, 40-7, over the third and fourth quarters.

Junior Reagan Heiken scored 16, junior Annaleise Brown had 15 and junior Jordyn Hood finished with 12 in the route. Senior Shaylee May had nine rebounds and five assists, both team highs. Sophomore Reagan Nuno came away with four steals.

Philomath outrebounded Corvallis, 34-26, including a 19-6 advantage on the offensive boards. The Spartans had 19 turnovers.
