The Philomath High School girls basketball team lost to Mira Costa (California) 56-38 on Tuesday in the team’s final game of the Surf City Holiday Classic in Huntington Beach, California

Mira Costa, a Manhattan Beach school with 2,500-plus students, took control early with leads of 21-13 by the end of the first quarter and 39-21 at halftime. The Mustangs buried six 3-pointers in the game.

Junior Annaleise Brown and sophomore Libby Kramer each scored 10 for the Warriors (6-5). Brown hit a first-quarter field goal and made 8 of 10 free throws. Kramer hit a 3-pointer off the bench in the first quarter as part of her 10 points.

Senior Ella Nickerson and junior Kylee Yeh each had 14 points to lead the Mustangs (10-7).

Philomath will now take a little bit of a break from competition before resuming its challenging nonconference schedule at 5A Crater in Central Point on Jan. 6. The Comets beat the Warriors in the Spartan Holiday Showcase on Dec. 21 in Corvallis, 76-52.
