The Philomath High boys swim team captured first place at the Sweet Home Invitational on Friday, edging out Marist Catholic 92-87 in a close team battle.

Lucas Brandt led the team’s individual performances with two first-place finishes. He won the 200-yard individual medley in 2:09.99 and took the 100 freestyle in 51.76.

Cameron McLennan also secured a pair of victories, claiming the 100 butterfly in 1:00.99 and the 100 breaststroke in 1:13.56.

Evan Hernandez added a runner-up finish in the 500 freestyle, touching in 7:32.93, while Charlie Avery placed third in the same event with a time of 9:07.47.

Ike Avery rounded out Philomath’s top-three individual finishes with a third-place showing in the 100 breaststroke, clocking 1:20.81.

The Warriors placed among the top three in all three relays. Philomath won the 200 medley relay as Mason Stevens, Brandt, McLennan and Blake Hauck combined for a time of 1:55.43.

Philomath also claimed runner-up in the 200 freestyle relay, where Wyatt Coen, Ike Avery, Hauck and Brandt finished in 1:47.00, and placed third in the 400 freestyle relay as Kayden Boynton, Milo Morrison, Hernandez and Coen posted a 4:48.28.

Behind Philomath and Marist, Sweet Home finished third with 73 points and Junction City was fourth with 31.

The Warriors’ girls team earned runner-up finishes in three events. Adelina Kowalewski, Alyssa Weeber, Kate Burriel and Emma Mecham combined for second place in the 200 medley relay with a time of 2:18.92.

Kowalewski also claimed second individually in the 50 freestyle, touching in 27.99, and added a third-place finish in the 100 backstroke (1:11.99). Mecham placed third in the 50 freestyle in 30.73. Burriel contributed a runner-up performance in the 100 butterfly, finishing in 1:20.28.

The 200 freestyle relay team of Hollie Barton, Emmylou Cook, Hailey Smith and Burriel took second place in 2:20.69.

Philomath finished fourth with 51 points as Marist Catholic won the team title with 92 points, followed by Sweet Home (81) and Junction City (53).

The Warriors are scheduled to compete next on Dec. 27 at the Stayton Invitational.
