SATURDAY, APRIL 26
• 2:29 p.m. — Troopers responded to a two-vehicle crash on Highway 30 near Clatskanie that took the life of Daren James McLeod, 48, of Clatskanie. OSP’s preliminary investigation indicated that McLeod was driving east on Highway 30 in a Volkswagen Jetta when he crossed the center line into oncoming traffic and crashed head-on into a Ford F-350 hauling a camping trailer. McLeod was declared deceased at the scene. The Ford’s driver, a 63-year-old Hammond man, suffered minor injuries.
SUNDAY, APRIL 27
• 6:20 a.m. — Troopers responded to a single-vehicle crash on Interstate 5 just south of Wilsonville that took the life of Alena Yesenia Gudino, 28, of Woodburn. OSP’s preliminary investigation indicated that Gudino was driving north in a BMW 530i and crashed while attempting to exit, leaving the roadway, driving through a grassy shoulder and striking several trees. Gudino was declared deceased at the scene.
TUESDAY, APRIL 29
• 6:24 a.m. — Troopers responded to a three-vehicle crash on Highway 26 in Clatsop County between Necanicum Junction and Elsie that took the life of Michael L. Skillin, 56, of Vernonia. OSP’s preliminary investigation indicated that Skillin was driving west in a Ford F-350 and while attempting to pass multiple commercial vehicles struck head-on another Ford F-350 that was driven by a 50-year-old man from Naselle, Washington. Skillin’s F-350 then struck the trailer of a westbound semi-truck driven by a 55-year-old Salem man. Skillin was declared deceased at the scene. A passenger in the vehicle, a 9-year-old girl, suffered minor injuries and was transported to a hospital. The driver of the Ford F-350 that was hit also suffered minor injuries and was transported to the hospital. The truck driver was reportedly not injured. OSP said that speed and unsafe passing were considered the primary factors in the cause of the crash.
