RANDOM OBSERVATION: My 7-year-old begins youth basketball practice next week. I remember playing the game at about that age and have the memory of a kid on the opposing team grabbing a rebound and then running full speed ahead to the other end of the court while carrying the ball like a football and not dribbling — a comical moment that has stuck with me. It reminds me that not all kids starting out just automatically know the rules (hopefully mine does). — Brad Fuqua, publisher/editor
