Tobias Lytle.
The death of Tobias Lytle occurred at Philomath last Tuesday, and was the result of Bright’s disease. The deceased had been for many years a resident of Benton county, and was aged about 50 years. He was a member of Corvallis lodge, A.F. & A.M., and the interment was made under the auspices of that order. The funeral occurred from the family residence Wednesday, and the services were conducted by the Rev. Mr. Bell. The remains were interred in the Newton cemetery.
Editor’s note: Mr. Lytle’s story was featured in a Philomath News article about a reunion that took place in June 2024. The feature includes more information on his life. Tobias Lytle was born Dec. 7, 1828, in Randolph County, North Carolina. Family historians consistently list his death date as either Jan. 18 or Jan. 20, 1896. However, after discovering the obituary, Philomath News contacted a Lytle family researcher who reported that the date of death that appears in a Bible record is Oct. 20, 1896, which matches the date indicated in the newspaper’s death notice.
