Rev. N.W. Allen.
CORVALLIS, Or., April 2. — Rev. N.W. Allen, for many years a resident of the vicinity of Philomath, and an Oregon pioneer, was buried this afternoon. The funeral was from the United Brethren Church at Philomath, and the service was conducted by Bishop Barkley, of Woodburn. The interment was in Mount Union Cemetery. “Father” Allen, as he was universally called, died at his home at Philomath Saturday night. He was aged 81 years.

Mr. Allen, of Philomath, whose serious illness we announced last week, died at his home in that city March 30th, aged 81 years.

Editor’s note: Nathan W. Allen was born Dec. 28, 1819, in Ohio to Harvey Allen and Luceba Adams. He married Anna Marie Woodward in 1841 in Ohio and according to family history accounts, they had up to 12 children. A newspaper item published in 1893 about Mr. Allen and his brother, seeing one another for the first time in 42 years, reported that he had gone west with his family to Oregon in 1851. Census records place Mr. Allen and family in Philomath from 1870 forward. A couple of inaccuracies occur in the preceding news items — he was 80 years old at the time of his death (not 81 as reported by Oregonian) and Mr. Allen’s date of death was March 31 (not March 30 as reported by the Gazette).
