News has come that Lester Hall Epley, age 25, son of President L.L. Epley, has just died at the sanitarium in Beatrice, Nebraska. President Epley is in Eastern Washington, working on endowment for Philomath College.

Funeral Here Today — The body of the late Lester Hall Epley, who died recently at a sanitarium in Beatrice, Nebraska, arrived in Corvallis yesterday afternoon and the remains were taken to Bovee’s funeral parlors where the funeral service was held at 2 o’clock this afternoon. Burial was in Newton cemetery. Deceased was aged 25 years and was a son of President L.L. Epley of Philomath College, and Mrs. Epley. Death came suddenly, after a brief illness, and the relatives and friends of the young man were surprised and shocked to learn of his demise.

Editor’s note: Modern use of the word sanitarium is often a reference to a mental health facility but in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, they were simply medical facilities for those suffering from long-term illnesses — especially tuberculosis.
