After a very severe illness of only a day or two, Miss Dora Watkins died at her home near Bellfountain, Wednesday evening and was buried at that place yesterday forenoon, the funeral occurring at 10 o’clock, conducted by Rev. M.M. Waltz.

Miss Dora Watkins, daughter of Levi and Mary Watkins, of Bellfountain, died at the family home last Wednesday. She was buried Thursday in the Newton cemetery. She was aged 36, and all her life had been an invalid.

Editor’s note: According to a death certificate, Ms. Watkins was born Feb. 27, 1871, in Oregon, the daughter of Levi F. Watkins and Mary E. Allen. She worked as a housekeeper and died on Oct. 31, 1906 of chronic nephritis, a long-term inflammation of the kidneys. Census records show that at age 9, she lived in Philomath as part of a household that included her parents and five siblings. The 1900 census places her as a 29-year-old in the family home at Monroe with her parents and two brothers.
