David L. Keys, an old resident of Benton county, died at his home a few miles west of Corvallis, last Saturday afternoon. The deceased was born in the state of Tennessee, Dec. 19, 1822. Until 1868 he was engaged in farming in the east. That year, with his family, he moved to Benton county, and located on the farm where he died. The funeral services occurred at the family residence Monday, and were conducted by Rev. Gould. The interment took place at the Newton cemetery.

Editor’s note: The surname for Mr. Keyes was spelled incorrectly in the obituary. According to family historians, he married Susan Ward on Jan. 3, 1849 in Johnson County, Tennessee, and together they had seven children. Census records show that the family moved to Oregon sometime during the 1860s. In 1880, he was a farmer near Philomath and lived in a household that included his wife and three grown children — all in their 20s.
