Mrs. Artemissa Lewis died at Philomath, Sunday, at 2 o’clock, of heart disease, and was buried yesterday at the Newton Cemetery. Mrs Lewis was born in Marion County, Indiana, Oct. 18, 1836, and was almost 72 years of age at the time of her death.

Editor’s note: Further research shows that Mrs. Lewis was born as Artemissa Harris to Benjamin Harris Jr. and Mahala Smith. Records show that she married Abraham Benton Bailey Lewis on March 9, 1853, in Williamsport,  Indiana. They were the parents of at least four sons and four daughters. Census records indicate that she lived in Illinois in 1870 and Missouri in 1880. She died Sept. 28, 1908. Her husband, who served as a captain in the Civil War, died the following year and is buried next to her at Mount Union Cemetery.
