To the Editor:
On behalf of the Philomath Community Services (PCS) Gleaners, I would like to thank the Confederated Tribes of Siletz Indians for their generous donation of $3,000 to our group in May. This grant is currently our only source of income to buy food from Linn Benton Food Share and other sources.
With the cost of food going up our members are feeling the economic pinch more with each passing month. When many families experience a slight increase in income this often results in a loss or reduction of food stamp benefits. Gleaners help fill in the food budget gaps for hundreds of local residents, including 66 adoptee families (elderly or disabled) and 93 children under 18.
Last month we distributed 16,325 pounds of food and household supplies to our members. Without programs like the Gleaners, much of this would go to waste. PCS Gleaners are extremely grateful for the good work of the Siletz Tribe.
