Philomath High’s summer baseball team opened its home tournament Friday with a 14-0 victory in five innings over Santiam Christian behind a no-hitter by rising junior Camaron Kvidt and a 10-hit performance by the offense.
Les and Bob’s (6-5) advances to the tournament’s semifinals with a game at 7:30 p.m. Saturday.
Kvidt, a rising junior, faced just 17 batters and allowed no hits and one walk with 12 strikeouts in the win over Santiam Christian. Besides the walk, the opponent’s only other base runner reached on an error in the fifth inning.
Offensively, Philomath’s lineup put up a balanced attack led by catcher Colvin Henley’s 2-for-3 effort with two doubles and three RBIs. Eight other players had a hit, including a triple by Samuel Hernandez and a double by Rocco De La Rosa. In addition to the runs that Henley drove in, De La Rosa also had three RBIs. Rustan Woosley drove in two.
The tournament concludes Sunday.
