Philomath High girls basketball juniors Reagan Heiken and Annaleise Brown were all-Oregon West Conference first-team selections, the league announced this week.
Also for the Warriors, sophomore Reagan Nuño and junior Jordyn Hood were named to the second team and senior Shaylee May and senior Isabelle Muir made the honorable mention list.
Heiken, a third-year starter who draws a lot of attention from opposing defenses, averaged 11.6 points, 6.6 rebounds and 3.4 assists per game in conference play. Brown had a breakout season in the paint with averages of 9.1 points, 6.3 rebounds and 2.1 assists in league games.
The conference’s Player of the Year honor went to Stayton junior Kathryn Samek, who averaged 13.9 points, 7.8 rebounds, 3.2 blocks and 2.8 steals per game. Cascade junior Lainey Klampe, who averaged 3.8 blocks and 2.3 steals per game, was named Defensive Player of the Year. Tal Wold, coach of league champion Stayton, was chosen as Coach of the Year.
In addition to Heiken, Brown and Samek, other first-team selections were Stayton’s Breeci Hampton and Cascade’s Rozalynn Schmunk and Cassidy Crabtree.
Among the second teamers, Philomath’s Nuño exhibited all-around abilities with 5.1 points and 3.3 rebounds per league game to go along with defensive averages of 1.9 deflections, 1.8 steals and 0.9 blocks. Hood led the team in 3-pointers and averaged 11.6 points and 3.6 rebounds per league game. She also had the team’s lowest turnover percentage among the starters and was one of only two players to shoot better than 60% at the foul line.
Other second-team selections were Stayton’s Kourtney Samek and Cascade’s Olivia Bennett and Klampe.
Philomath’s May, an honorable mention pick, had league game averages of 4.3 rebounds, 2.4 assists and a team-best 2.4 steals. Muir provided most of her impact off the bench as a long-range shooting threat.
The rest of the honorable mention list included Stayton’s Zuri Andersen, Makenzie Schacher, Mila Morley and Laela Hunt, Sweet Home’s Aaliyah Brown, Taylor Gaskey and Addy Vannice, Newport’s Rhianna Silva, Iyanna Erwin, Kylie Humphrys and Briahna Kirchner, and Cascade’s Pearl Pruett.
