Ahead of the 2025 legislative session, State Rep. David Gomberg (D-Otis) was nominated this week to represent the Oregon House Democrats as speaker pro tempore. The Oregon Legislative Coastal Caucus also elected Gomberg to continue serving as its chair.

“I couldn’t be more honored to have been chosen as the Democratic nominee for speaker pro tempore,” Gomberg said through a press release. “The opportunity to lend a rural perspective to House Democratic leadership can’t be overstated.”

Gomberg said he looks forward to working in tandem with House speaker Julie Fahey (D-Eugene).

“From education, transportation and housing to infrastructure and beyond, I have the utmost confidence that 2025 will represent a unique opportunity to tackle the most difficult challenges Oregon has been tasked with,” Gomberg said.

The full legislative assembly will convene in January to cast their final votes on House and Senate leadership for the 83rd Legislative Assembly.

Gomberg will continue in his role as chair of the Oregon Legislative Coastal Caucus following his first election to the post in 2021. The caucus includes bipartisan representatives and senators from Oregon’s coastal House and Senate districts including Sen. David Brock Smith (R-Port Orford), Sen. Dick Anderson (R-Lincoln City), Sen. Suzanne Weber (R-Tillamook), Rep. Boomer Wright (R-Coos Bay), Rep. Court Boice (R-Gold Beach) and Rep. Cyrus Javadi (R-Tillamook).

Said Gomberg, “Whatever challenges our coast may be confronted with, I know that we have a solid team of legislators capable of meeting them.”
