School enrollment: Philomath High School enrollment increased to 410 students, compared with 389 last year. This means the high school is “right at the seams,” Lee Edwards, superintendent of the Philomath School District, said. Some high school classes have as many as 35 students, Edwards said, primarily because of remodeling that turned one regular classroom into a science classroom to accommodate tougher graduation requirements in science. The Philomath School Board approved the tougher requirements last year. (Published Sept. 5, 1984, in the Corvallis Gazette-Times)
