The Benton County Planning Commission added an extra day of public testimony for those who want to voice their views on Republic Services’ application for the proposed expansion of the Coffin Butte Landfill.

The process started April 29 with a report from county staff, continued May 1 with Republic Services addressing questions from the Planning Commission and followed Tuesday with the beginning of verbal testimony.

According to the county, testimony was delivered by or on behalf of 37 people at the public hearing.

“After nearly three hours of verbal testimony on the third day, the commission had heard from only half of the 78 community members who signed up to testify,” the county wrote in a press release. “After a brief discussion and motion, the commissioners voted to add the additional meeting and resume two days later so all community voices can be heard.”

The Planning Commission will continue to hear testimony beginning at 6 p.m. Thursday at the Kalapuya Building (4500 SW Research Way, Corvallis). Testimony will be limited to those who had signed up to speak prior to the registration deadline.

Following public testimony, Republic Services will then be given an opportunity to deliver a brief rebuttal.

The Planning Commission will deliberate and make a decision at a meeting on June 17.
